It’s National Beer Day and Indiana isn’t exactly new to the beer scene. We’re drenched in beer history starting all the way back in 1816 when George Bentel emigrated from Germany to New Harmony to share his dark lager with Hoosiers. Since then, many other breweries have opened, closed, re-opened and reinvented themselves over our long beer history. You can read more about it in the article “Timeline on Tap” in our digital issue here.

One of the beers featured in “Timeline on Tap” is Champagne Velvet. First made in 1837 in Terre Haute, this pilsner is an Indiana beer not to miss. Resurrected in 1999, the brew and its recipe are now owned by Upland Brewing Co. out of Bloomington. And, just this week Upland announced its rebrand of the beloved and history-packed Champagne Velvet, which was a best seller after Prohibition. The new look is a throw back to its 40s styling.

Not only is Champagne Velvet’s label getting a retro facelift, its distribution is expanding. Be sure to keep an eye out for this iconic Indiana classic.
