Email all pitches to editor@edibleindy.com.
To help guide your story ideas, here are some subject areas we cover.
Indy Food & Drink Scene
We’re looking for: Stories that reflect the culture and community around Indianapolis’ thriving bar & restaurant scene. Profiles of emerging chefs, previews of pop-ups and tasting menus, restaurant openings and reviews, and innovations at the forefront of the industry are all welcome here. Also, food producers and distributors—story pitches relating to grocery stores, breweries, markets, etc. These stories should make people excited to get out and explore the city.
The People Behind the Food
We’re looking for: stories that spotlight the people behind the meal. This series focuses specifically on chefs, barbacks, restaurant owners, cookbook authors, farmers, grocers, and more. These profiles and interviews dig deeper than your average story spotlight and are meant to give a more personal glimpse into the people behind the food. Think longer-form stories, in-depth interviews, etc.
Hosting & Home Cooking
We’re looking for: trend reporting, reviews, & recipes that help home chefs and master hosts do what they love most: making a meal worth celebrating. This beat is all about cooking from home and inviting people in. First-person perspectives are welcome here. What works around your table, and why?
Food Education
We’re looking for: thoughtful and informative stories on unique ingredients and food stories around Indiana and beyond. These stories should expand palettes or explore little-known stories of food production. All should tie back to the community here. We’re looking for expert insights here, beyond “did you know?”
Cultural Connections
We’re looking for: stories of food & drink that bring a certain novelty or pop culture element in. This might be a digital food trend reporting, test kitchen of viral recipes, a local spin on global food events, or even spotlighting marginalized voices that commonly go unheard. These stories are meant to be upbeat human interest pieces, aimed at keeping people engaged with the latest in food & drink.
