Some restaurant previews feel like rehearsals, the kind where you can tell everyone’s still finding their rhythm. The VIP preview night at Dean’s Steakhouse and Seafood inside the downtown JW Marriott was the exact opposite. From the moment my wife and I sat down, it felt like this team had already been doing this for years.
The space itself sets the tone: classic steakhouse energy with soft lighting, deep booths, and a buzz that feels equal parts special occasion and after-work unwind. The menu is serious about its craft. There’s a raw bar stacked with East and West Coast oysters, colossal shrimp, and chilled king crab, a clear signal that this place treats seafood with the same respect as its steaks.
Speaking of steaks, Dean’s lineup ranges from USDA Prime cuts to Japanese A5 Wagyu and a jaw-dropping $250 Tomahawk Ribeye, which is a massive, shareable showstopper for anyone looking to make a night of it.

I started with roasted bone marrow, rich and buttery, followed by a smooth lobster bisque that hit every comforting note. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly with that signature sear and paired with creamy, golden, and dangerously good potatoes au gratin. The wood-grilled shrimp brought a smoky contrast to the meal, balanced by a bright lemon butter sauce.
The night ended on a high note with dessert and one last tableside martini, a signature touch that feels both old-school and new.
Dean’s doesn’t just join Indy’s dining scene; it raises the bar. It’s a place for celebrations, business dinners, or just anyone who loves great food done right. And based on this preview night, they’re already firing on all cylinders.
