The craveable, melt-in-your-mouth sensation of the gooey butter cookies at Rosie’s Place take only a taste to permanently fix themselves in your mind. For Noblesville, Zionsville, and Carmel regulars, they’re a memory wrapped in a cookie at the vintage counter before checkout. Now, the sensation of Gooey Butter Cookies is spreading out to be available, by mail, nationwide. Gooey Butter Cookies are also available as a monthly subscription box, called the Cookie Craving Club.
What began as an homage to the St. Louis cafeterias where Debbi’s family got their start are now the sweet taste of home for Hoosiers who have landed further afield. Bourgerie grew up in south St. Louis, where gooey butter cake is as iconic as Ted Drewes and T-Ravs. When she moved to Noblesville and opened a breakfast and lunch spot on the square, Rosie’s Place, Bourgerie started to wonder if there was a way to make the classic cake more grab-and-go.
“The lunch guys came in and they wanted to take dessert with them, so, we turned the gooey butter cake into a gooey butter cookie so that they could have it handheld to go back with them,” said Bourgerie. “It really is fun watching them be in other places and become that item that people remember because it’s just so different.”

The Cookie Craving Club officially launched back in August, with 50 loyal fans becoming founding members. Members can choose between 6 and 12 cookies; the pack comes with 2-4 of the original, plus the monthly flavor and a variety of favorite classics. The September flavor of the month is Caramel Apple, a caramel-forward play on the fall treat with a pinch of apple-sweetness. Warming them up takes it to a whole new level.
“At first we were only doing the original, then we finally branched out because people were asking for different flavors,” Bourgerie said. Their monthly flavors mean club members are always getting something that suits seasonally. They also offer bundles, which is great for one-off purchases, especially around the holidays.

“When people’s relatives do come into town, Rosie’s is the local place that they take people, that really makes us happier than anything,” said Bourgerie.
Although the taste of home is certainly a factor for locals who have since moved away, recently, they’ve also started offering corporate gifting options, so that companies with offices around the world can provide a bit of local flavor to their Indianapolis team and clients.
