A shared passion for craft beer ignited the journey of MashCraft Brewing ten years ago in Greenwood, Indiana. Founded by friends Andrew Castner, Joe Janik, and John Lee, the brewery has grown to include three locations across Central Indiana, with additional taprooms in downtown Indianapolis and Fishers.

Edible Indy’s publisher, Adam Grubb, got behind the bar with Andrew, the head brewer behind MashCraft’s ever-evolving menu, to celebrate this milestone anniversary and delve into the story behind the brew.

From Buddies to Brewers

The story of MashCraft is as much about friendship as it is about beer. Andrew, Joe, and John, each with diverse backgrounds, found a common thread in their appreciation for quality craft brews. Each with vital talents to bring to the table, Andrew, Joe and John knew they were onto something.

“Our unique skill sets have been instrumental in MashCraft’s success,” Andrew said. “We truly believe in collaborative creativity, and it shows in everything we do – from our diverse beer selection to our lively atmosphere.”

More Than Just Beer

Stepping into a MashCraft location is akin to stepping into a friendly neighborhood gathering place. Locals steadily trickled in through the afternoon, each greeted by name with a warm wave from Andrew. “We’re kind of like the bar in Cheers,” Andrew said with a laugh. This welcoming environment is no accident; it’s a core element of the MashCraft experience.

“From the very beginning, we envisioned MashCraft as more than just a brewery,” Andrew said. “We wanted to create a space where families could come together, dogs were welcome on the patio, and the community could connect over a good beer.”

Every taproom offers a full food menu and a family and dog friendly environment. With a  shoutout for Trivia Night and Live Music both chalked on the wall behind Andrew, it’s clear something great is always brewing at MashCraft.

A Decade of Awards and Looking Ahead

MashCraft’s dedication to quality has not gone unnoticed. Their consistently delicious brews earned them regional and national recognition, with recent wins at the Indiana Brewers’ Cup and the U.S. Open Beer Championship.

But what’s next for MashCraft? Andrew said, “We’re always brainstorming new ideas! Expect more innovative beers, exciting food specials, and engaging events throughout the rest of the year.”

A Taste of MashCraft

A visit to MashCraft wouldn’t be complete without a sampling of their menu. The Garden Pesto Pizza, paired with the crisp, refreshing Shiftwork Munich Helles didn’t disappoint. This flavor-packed pie drizzled with balsamic could persuade even the pickiest eater. The Frontera Chicken Nachos served up with the Last Light Blood Orange IPA, left us hungry for more, and the homemade spicy ranch really put it over the top. The Fredo Sandwich, a symphony of Italian flavors, balanced beautifully with the Crafted Mash Vol. 10 New England IPA, and the Havana Night Club, Mashcraft’s version of the popular Cuban Sandwich, took on a tropical twist with the Stargazer Guava Sour and had us longing to bury our toes in the sand.

A Toast to MashCraft

Over their 10-year history, MashCraft has built a reputation as a testament to friendship, community, and a shared love for craft beer. So, let’s raise a glass to MashCraft, and head to one of their locations for a taste of their award-winning beers, delicious food, and warm hospitality. You just might discover your new favorite gathering place.
