The annual summer festival, Bloombox, is returning to the corner of 16th and Delaware for its 24th year. On June 21st, the Harrison Center is hosting this free all-day celebration of art and music on the Old Northside.
Formerly known as the Independent Music and Arts Festival, the event brings together artists and performers from various practices for one day of summer celebration. Visitors can browse the over 80 booths of the Summer Artisan Market, check out the line up on two different stages, and enjoy a variety of food truck vendors, including the Indian-Mexican fusion of Indi Taco, Jamaican Jerk Chicken from T’Days, and Sakura Express’ latest Karaage Onigiri, which is a handheld rice ball topped with a tempura fried teriyaki chicken.
In addition to the other festival activities, a few food vendors are doubling as artisans in the market. ArtMix and Howdy Homemade Ice Cream are partnering during the event for their “Here’s the Scoop” fundraiser. Through their fundraiser, sales of ice cream in handmade ceramic bowls will help raise money for both organizations. ArtMix provides inclusive arts programming, and Howdy helps to provide inclusive employment opportunities to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Simple Times Mixers will also be returning as a vendor this year. Their all-natural cocktail mixers from nearby Columbus, Ohio offer a refreshing and customizable experience that’s perfect for a patio party. Mix one of their flavors, like their Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita, with soda water for a mocktail, or the right alcohol pairing for a traditional cocktail without the fuss.
The Bloombox Festival will run June 21st from noon to 8p.m. at the Harrison Center, 1505 N. Delaware St, Indianapolis, IN 46202. For more information, visit their website at www.harrisoncenter.org/bloombox.
