INGREDIENTS
10 cups apples (Red Delicious or
Honeycrisp—you want to use an apple
that won’t get mushy when baking)
3⁄4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons butter
1 box of pie crust (if you’re feeling
adventurous you can make your own
pie crust)
Crust Glaze:
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of milk
Sugar
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350°. Slice the apples very thin and put in a large bowl.
Mix all dry ingredients together (sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg) in a separate bowl. Add dry ingredients to the apples and mix thoroughly.
Cover the bottom of your pie pan with one of the crust layers (make sure you follow the box directions about letting it stand at room temperature) and form it to the pie pan. Add your apple mixture to the crust.
Divide your butter into 4 pieces and place them on the top of the apple mixture. Place the second layer of crust over the top of the apples. Go along the edges and pinch the two crust edges together with your fingers or a fork. Slice 4 slits into the top of the pie (about an inch long). Put the pie pan on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper to catch any drippings. Bake for 1 1⁄2 hours (uncovered). A few minutes before your pie is done, make your glaze mixture.
After removing the pie from the oven, immediately add the glaze mixture to the top and sprinkle sugar on top. Once completely cooled, secure the top tightly with plastic wrap, and store in the refrigerator.
