Every town in the Indianapolis area has their own Independence Day fireworks show, and with that comes the extensive offerings for Indy’s favorite foodies. From the Fourth’s indisputable cuisine of hotdogs to the broadened offerings from cultures around the world, each festival is celebrating 250 years of the “Melting Pot”—literally and figuratively.

In the Loop
Inside of 465, you’ll find the city’s classic Fourth Fest at the American Legion Mall and surrounding park areas, but beyond the enticing metropolitan location, downtown Indy’s Fourth of July festival will feature a generous spread of street food trucks to get a taste of the city. A couple glizzy spots to keep an eye out for—because it wouldn’t be the Fourth without a hotdog—include Chicago Beef and Dog Company and Diesel Dogs. And if a charred dog isn’t your speed, get your fill with That Vegan Joint, Las Tortugas, and Dee-licious Soulfood and Catering. Spread out in every corner of the event grounds, the foods you crave are somewhere to be found and savored.
Happening on Saturday, July 4th, Downtown’s celebration, alongside many surrounding festivals on the same day, makes a strong argument with wavering tastebuds to bring Naptown to the heart of the city for a festival they won’t forget.

Further Afield
Being the only two-day celebration around Indy, CarmelFest brings the heat this Independence Day with over 40 vendors of longtime attendees and popular local spots to expect at their weekend of fireworks and fun on July 3rd & 4th. Beginning with desserts (because whoever said “dinner before dessert” clearly never had F&F Apple Dumplings), Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard is making its much appreciated return alongside Ben and Jerry’s, Le Macaron, and all the fried elephant ears you can imagine with Coffman Elephant Ears. With no shortage of sweet treat options, a two day venture into CarmelFest is packed with savory cuisines as well. Whether it’s to get the infallible corn-on-the-cob from Wilson’s Sweet Corn or the Indian fusion tacos from Indi Taco, your tastebuds are sure to be satisfied in the civic space of Carter Green, Carmel.

Heading South and a little earlier than the rest, Greenwood’s Freedom Festival on Saturday, June 27th, although not made public yet, is expected to have returning vendors, such as Johnson’s BBQ Shack, and the appearance of long-lasting partnership with Oaken Barrel to support the Beer Garden with their classic Razz-Wheat craft ale. With locals anticipating a full menu roll-out of food trucks and vendors soon, the celebration at Craig Park is a great way to kick-off the Fourth festivities.
Following the Southside’s Greenwood celebration, Franklin’s Firecracker Festival on Friday, July 3rd, can keep the festivities going with The Legendary Kitchen and Chomp’z supplying Indiana’s favorite food—a tenderloin larger than your head. Alongside the classic pork fritter, a selection of BBQ and pulled pork can be found at Tasty Tay’s and Alley Cat Street Food, and when all is said and done, a night in downtown Franklin is never complete without Scoops & Treasures, a Southside staple for Hershey’s Ice Cream. Located in the heart of Franklin, the Firecracker Festival brings you along Main Street for endless summer fun.
Just west of the Indy Loop, Guilford Township is hosting their 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday, July 4th at Hummel Park, and if their selection of dirty soda shops, Sodeez and Pop’d to name a few, is indication enough, this festival is one you don’t want to miss. With a few fan favorites returning to the festival, Lazy J’s Kettle Korn, The Potato Nest, and Scott Diggity Dogs, for example, the people of Guilford Township have quite the menu to look forward to this Independence Day weekend. And for a lighter fare, the bowls at Fruit Monster are a pleasant way to kick-off or end a long day of summer festivities with friends and family at Hummel Park.

Venture the Unknown
North, south, east, and west of Indy, there’s a festival close to wherever you stay, and if the mystery of what to expect for grub at festivals such as Depot Freedom Fest in Greenfield, City of Lawrence 4th Fest, or Noblesville Fireworks Festival at Forest Park is how you roll, then make sure to visit everything they have to offer. With vendors and entertainment groups joining the lineups for each festival daily, there’s a guarantee that whichever town you choose to celebrate with will indulge every desire.
