Real reviews. No sponsorships. Just someone showing up for Indy’s food scene.
In a city as layered and growing as Indianapolis, food is often where identity takes shape. For first-generation chefs and creators, it is also where stories begin again.
From Breaking Bao ’s thoughtful street food to The Donn of Tiki ’s fresh take on flavor, Indianapolis’ food scene is embracing creativity that draws from both memory and momentum.
Amanda Gibson, a lifelong restaurant worker and local food lover, is part of that shift. While some may know her from Indy Dough, many now follow her for her refreshingly honest TikTok reviews of local restaurants.
“It started out from frustration,” she said. “Seeing food influencers ask small businesses to pay them just did not sit right with me. I have worked in restaurants my whole adult life. So I thought, why not use my own time, my own money, and feature the places I think people should really know about?”

It quickly became something more. Amanda’s recommendations spotlighted immigrant-owned businesses across the city, often bringing in new customers. “Some of the conversations I’ve had with owners have stayed with me. Sometimes we have to use Google Translate, but it’s always worth it.”
As her platform has grown, so has her intention. She takes care in how she represents places and ingredients that are not part of her own background. It all comes back to listening, asking questions, and showing respect.
“I feel like I am sitting at a lot of other tables now,” she said. “With people who have often been told no one wants to sit with them. And if someone walks by, I invite them too.”
That is the kind of hospitality we need more of. Amanda’s sharing the food she loves. No deals, no pressure, just honest takes from someone who’s been in the restaurant world her whole life. Her TikTok is a quiet celebration of the spots that make Indy special.
