As restaurants and bars across Indianapolis roll out happy hour specials, we’ve curated a list of the top spots to toast the return of this beloved tradition.
Have you heard the news? Happy hour has returned to the Circle City after a 39-year hiatus, and Indy’s culinary scene is ready to celebrate. As of July 1st, Indiana lifted its long-standing ban on happy hour specials, ushering in a new era of after-work indulgence and social gatherings.
With countless options popping up across the city, finding the best deals can feel overwhelming, so we’ve done the legwork for you. Whether you’re looking for discounted drinks, mouthwatering small plates, or simply a great atmosphere to unwind after a long day, here are the establishments that made it to the top of our list.
The District Tap
For an elevated sports bar experience, The District Tap is your go-to destination. Known for its craft beer on tap and bar bites, the restaurant now features weekday happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. For $4, you can choose from six-ounce house wines, 16-ounce beer pints or a well cocktail (vodka, gin, rum, whisky, tequila and scotch). With a massive bar with taps lining both sides, The District Tap has a wide beer selection to fit every taste, making it the ideal spot for larger groups (drinks after work, anyone?).
Gallery Pastry Shop
Gallery Pastry Shop has everything you need for an upscale happy hour at a fraction of the cost. This Instagram-worthy restaurant’s cocktails are all half off from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. With everything from classic to signature cocktails, you’ll find a drink (or two) you love. While there, you can pair your new favorite beverage with a wide variety of non-discounted but equally delicious sweet treats, appetizers or entrees—perfect for an elegant date night or night out with friends.
101 Beer Kitchen
Offering one of the most comprehensive happy hours on our list, 101 Beer Kitchen has discounts on beer, wine, cocktails and light bites. With locations in Fishers and Carmel, you can enjoy half-off starters, dips and spreads, wine by the glass and craft cocktails on weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Draft beers are also $3 off, making most pours half off. Known for its seasonal, handcrafted products and comfortable, rustic ambiance, this is the place to be if you’re looking to munch and sip on a wide variety of high-quality offerings at wallet-friendly prices.
Agave and Rye
No happy hour is complete without arguably one of the most iconic food and drink duos: queso and margaritas. Offering both food and drink discounts, Agave & Rye’s happy hour includes $7.75 “OG” margaritas and bourbon peach punches, $2.50 domestic cans, $1 off all “epic tacos,” $4.75 chips and queso and $1 per chicken wing (with a minimum purchase of six). This eclectic, vibrant taco joint’s happy hour runs Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Don’t worry; they didn’t forget about Taco Tuesday—the restaurant runs a separate special that delivers a similar bang for your buck.
Four Finger Distillery
Four Finger Distillery has a cozy speakeasy vibe and an equally enticing list of seasonal drinks. Unlike the conventional happy hour, Four Finger’s deals run almost every day of the week, including the weekends. Each day from Tuesday through Sunday has a unique offering and timeframe, but one thing remains the same: all cocktails that aren’t already discounted are $2 off. The daily specials span flights, bottles and spirit type. The full list can be found at this link.
The revival of happy hour marks a new chapter in Indy’s social calendar. These five hotspots are just the beginning of what promises to be a renaissance for the city’s afternoon and evening entertainment. As more venues join the fray, expect to see innovative specials, themed events and perhaps even friendly rivalries emerge. This shift boosts local businesses and fosters a sense of community, encouraging Hoosiers to step out and mingle. So whether you’re a longtime resident or a curious visitor, now’s the time to experience the energy and excitement of Indy’s reinvigorated happy hour scene.
